Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)
Candidates may send in their application package and attend an interview pending receipt of their Vulnerable Sector Screening, as long as it is indicated in their package that they have applied for the Vulnerable Sector Screening and are waiting for the results. The Vulnerable Sector Screening can take up to six weeks to receive.

Interview Process

The Registrar will arrange an interview once all the necessary documentation is submitted. All candidates are invited to attend an interview during which a short English assessment will be written.

Your interview will be arranged with the Registrar and one or more representatives of the Institute. The interview process takes approximately 2 hours.  Candidates will be asked questions based on information in their application packages, their knowledge of Montessori education and why they would like to become a teacher. Candidates are encouraged to bring any items with them to their interview that they would like to share with the Institute (i.e. a project or a portfolio of their work).

The English Assessment Test

All candidates are required to take an English assessment test regardless of their educational background at the time of interview. The test will assess candidates on aspects of English grammar and spelling at a post-secondary level. In order to prepare for the test it is a good idea to review the rules of proper sentence structure and the parts of a sentence (ie. Verbs, adjectives, nouns, etc.) prior to your interview.

Hint: The interview and English assessment test are the most important part of the entire admissions process. Your interview is your opportunity to shine and let TMI know why a career in Montessori edcuation is for you!

Medical Certificate and Photograph

Upon acceptance, a Medicial Certificate (provided by TMI to be completed by your physician), a recent passport photograph and a $700.00 registration fee are required to complete the student's admissions file. A student is not considered registered until the admissions file is complete and the necessary fees have been paid.

After receiving your acceptance letter go to the ‘Once You Are Accepted’ section of the web site for more information.

It is the Institute’s goal to accept
applicants who show a
commitment to the Montessori
method.
