A letter will be sent to you confirming your application package has been received. If you do not receive a confirmation in the mail approximately two weeks after sending in your package, please call (905-889-6882) or e-mail the Registrar at tmi@torontomontessori.ca.
Please make sure that your application fee is sent in with your application. This will ensure that your documents are processed without any problems. The application fee can be paid by cheque, certified cheque, money order, VISA or cash. If you are paying by VISA you will need to drop your application off in person to the Registrar. Office hours are Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The best time to get in touch with the Registrar in person is every Thursday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Vulnerable Sector Screening (Criminal Record Check)
The Vulnerable Sector Screening form is the only admissions item that is not needed in order to invite you in for an interview after your application package has been submitted as Vulnerable Sector Screening can sometimes take up to six weeks to receive. Candidates can send in their application package prior to receiving the Vulnerable Sector Screening, as long as it is indicated in their package that they have applied for the Vulnerable Sector Screening and are waiting for the results.
Interview Process
The Registrar will arrange an interview once all the necessary documentation is submitted. All candidates are invited to attend an interview and you will be expected to take a short English assessment at the same time.
Your interview will be arranged with one or more representatives of the Institute. It takes approximately 45 minutes and candidates will be asked questions based on their application packages, their knowledge of Montessori education and why they would like to become a teacher. Candidates are encouraged to bring any items with them to their interview that they would like to share with the Institute (i.e. a project or a portfolio of their work).
The English Assessment Test
All candidates are required to take an English assessment test, regardless of their educational background, at the time of interview. The test will quiz candidates on aspects of English grammar and spelling at a post-secondary level. In order to prepare for the test it is a good idea to review the rules of proper sentence structure and the parts of a sentence (ie. Verbs, adjectives, nouns, etc.) prior to your interview date.
The interview and English assessment test takes approximately 2 hours.
Hint: The interview and English assessment test is the most important part of the entire admissions process. Your interview is your opportunity to shine and let TMI know why you would be the best Montessori teacher.
Health Form and A Picture
Upon acceptance, a health form, a recent passport photograph and a non-refundable registration fee are required to complete the student's admissions file. A student is not considered registered until the admissions file is complete and the necessary fees have been paid.
After receiving your acceptance letter go to the ‘Once You Are Accepted’ section of the web site for more information.
